I listened to the audio where Ms. Machado herself read her memoir for roughly 3.5/4 hours. I was shocked at the abuse she went through in her relationship with her long term girlfriend at the time. I feel as if she used the you (second person) story telling almost as if it were a mirror to herself, maybe to separate her present self from past self. Despite the turmoil she went through, her willingness to write about these moments in her life made me feel emotional for her.
