The Season of Dreams by Fiona Valpy

5.0

A contemporary romance set in the same chateau as Valpy's historical novels [b:The Beekeeper's Promise|38371397|The Beekeeper's Promise|Fiona Valpy|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1517914597l/38371397._SX50_.jpg|58359429] and [b:The Dressmaker's Gift|44285117|The Dressmaker's Gift|Fiona Valpy|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1565791024l/44285117._SX50_.jpg|68801023]. The main character's from those books appear as minor characters in this one. This is clear in the author's note at the end. You don't need to have read the others though I'm not thinking a reread might be quite satisfying.

Back to the main event ... The story is about going along with a plan proposed by a man you are in a relationship and then having to figure out whether that's what you really want once he's decided it's "too much commitment". There are strong themes around belonging and home, and how your desires are shaped by your childhood experiences but not determined by them.

I really enjoyed it and recommend it.
