Shirley and Jamila Save Their Summer by Gillian Goerz

4.0

I loved what this book had to say about perspective and compassion, and how it did so without coming across as cloying. Even adults have issues with learning to walk in someone else's shoes, so I always enjoy when books targeted at a younger audience find meaningful ways to encourage kids to think about what someone else is experiencing before passing judgement.

I also liked what this book had to say about friendship. It points out that the substance of a person is important, and that you shouldn't always listen to or trust what others say about someone without getting to know that person yourself. Sometimes it's what seems like the strangest mismatches that make an actual team work.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book!
