I’ve enjoyed several other books from the author so was  looking forward to this one. The idea of a magical blacksmith and a main character with anxiety have some promise, but the execution of these ideas was awful. The main plot is paper thin and entirely predictable, which would  be okay if the characters were interesting enough to care about. Unfortunately, they’re all an awful mix of irritating, stupid, and unlikable and I found myself actively rooting for several of them to die at certain points and save me from having to read any more about them. It was a relief to finish the  book and I have no desire to read the sequel and find out how the cliffhanger ending is resolved.
