Anya and the Nightingale by Sofiya Pasternack

4.0

I was honestly really torn on this rating. Anya seems to have gotten a little brattier in this book which tracks because she is 13 now and I guess going through teenage mood swings. Still there were some legit heated arguments between friends that just seemed to be later pushed aside without really addressing them which might just be nitpicking on my part but felt significant while reading.

All that being said, the returning characters and the new characters that were introduced in this book are great. I love the representation in this book from Jewish Russian to deaf to LGBT characters, I feel like this book is so refreshing for a kid's fantasy book. The big bad is very cool and the story was just plain good. I'm definitely going to read the next one. (I gotta know what's happening in Istanbul)
