I love the phase 1 middle grade novels. They’ve all been really good, and the illustrations give them a little plus I wish the YA and adult novels had too.

The story for this book is kind of a version of the Valo fair for younger readers. It’s not a retelling, but it takes place during the exact same time frame and includes some of the same characters. It’s interesting, if a little hard to follow at times because you’re trying to pinpoint where is everyone while this and that is happening.

I love Lula and Zeen a lot more now that I have the background for their relationship (they are a couple, change my mind).

Ram is 100% autistic-coded and you cannot convince me otherwise. I love this boy. He is my son. I shall protect him forever.

I’m always a tiny bit disappointed when I don’t get to see Elza – especially since we know he is there!!! – but I won’t hold it against the author. And considering DJO’s adult novel left me a little disappointed, maybe it’s better if he doesn’t touch my favourite…
