Second Sister
by Jeremy Tiang, Chan Ho-Kei
dark
mysterious
medium-paced
While I can’t say I fully embraced it, there are elements that made it worth the read, particularly its sharp commentary on technology and how it shapes our reality. The character N is without a doubt the core of the narrative. His detached, almost clinical perspective on the world, along with his ability to read people based on their online behavior, creates a fascinating lens through which the story unfolds. His philosophical musings and insights into the human psyche, especially in relation to social media, made me reflect on how easily we can be influenced in today’s digital age. While the plot itself may not have been groundbreaking, it was N’s psychological depth and his moral dilemmas that made the book engaging for me. The philosophical and psychological layers layered throughout the story were more impactful than the twist, even if the plot itself didn’t leave an indelible mark.
