The Apocalypse of Elena Mendoza by Shaun David Hutchinson
5.0

This book solidifies my love for Shaun David Hutchinson. This is the third book of his that I have read and I officially need to read everything he writes. The characters he creates are some of the most relatable characters a person will read in YA literature and Elena Mendoza is no different.

She was born of a virgin birth and is given the gift to heal people and create miracles. Despite these amazing abilities though, she has things in her life she struggles with. She struggles with Being afraid to put herself out there with the girl she likes, having to protect her mother from a deadbeat who won’t step up, she’s bullied, she’s ridiculed for being this “miracle girl” and called a hoax.

All of this eventually leads to her realization that life is made of the choices we make, good or bad, and the end of the world doesn’t change our ability to choose what we do in the life we are given.

I loved every moment of this book and I definitely feel Shaun David Hutchinson is an author everyone should read.
