Book 2: City of Mirth and Malice

Stars-⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Some debts are deeper than blood. Some vows are forged in vengeance.

This sequel blew me away. Where House of Bane and Blood built the world and set everything in motion, City of Mirth and Malice takes it all and sets it on fire. Alexis L. Menard doesn’t just continue the story—she deepens it, sharpens every edge, and drags her characters through absolute hell in the best way.
Camilla’s arc in this book? Absolutely phenomenal. She’s no longer just trying to survive—she’s choosing to fight, to destroy, to become something more than what the world made her. After everything she endures, watching her rise with that mix of fury and purpose was so damn powerful.
And Nico... wow. He unravels in this one—in the most beautiful, heartbreaking way. You see a man who’s willing to lose everything for the woman he loves. The cold, calculating side is still there, but beneath it is raw, desperate love. His journey into the darkest corners of the city to save her? I felt every moment of it.
The pacing is relentless. The twists are brutal. And the romance? Absolutely feral. Every scene between Camilla and Nico crackled with intensity—rage, longing, love, grief—it’s all there, tangled and wild.
This book doesn’t just raise the emotional stakes, it delivers on them. From magical trials to impossible choices to a city coming undone, every moment felt like it mattered. The ending wrecked me—in the best, most satisfying way.
