The Rock Eaters: Stories by Brenda Peynado

4.0

I often struggle to stay invested in short stories but I am glad I gave this one a try because I found the authors first work really important. The purpose of these short stories were focused on topics like immigration, xenophobia and class differences but told through fantasy scenarios that tied in aliens, magical realism, science fiction and more. It was really beautifully written but did end the book feeling pretty heartbroken with the continue reality of these intense challenges covered in Rock Eaters. I also agree with the other reviewers that shared the stories were a bit long.
