Did not finish book. Stopped at 48%.

I tried, I really did. But I was promised fantasy, and drama, and romance, and con artists, and all I got was a world that looked kind of like Venice, but with made up words that made no sense, and you couldn’t ever figure out through context, and a glossary that was the least helpful glossary I’ve ever seen. Too much time was spent describing Ren’s costumes, and the only person I cared even a little about was Leato

and I spoiled his ending for me when I was looking for reasons to continue, but his death ended up making me dnf for sure

the reviews all said they stuck around for Vargo, but again by nearly half way through I still didn’t care a lick for him. Sorry but life is too short to read a book that felt like pulling teeth to pick up.
