A Soul to Heal
by Opal Reyne
This book was a bit of a roller coaster for me. I kept going from 2 star, to 5, to 3, to 4, over and over. But all in all, this was a great read. I wish these books existed when I was 16-17, I would have been even more obsessed.
A soul to heal covers many deep, uncomfortable topics like adultery, sexual vulnerability, regrets and shameful actions, depression, accidental pregnancy, child “loss”, etc. It is nothing like Orpheus and Reia’s story: romantic, classic, sexy and smooth: No. Magnar and Delora’s story is messy. Awkward. It shows that relationships aren’t always smooth and easy and things don’t go to plan, especially with children. It beautifully demonstrates how motherhood can be completely different from the fluffy moments you expect, and how a mother must accept differences in their children that they didn’t foresee.
I think both Magnar and Delora had very nice character arcs, and how Delora has value even if she isn’t perfect.
I did not expect the incorporation of Orpheus and Reia at all let alone so prevalent and I loved it! You can see how much they have grown as well.
The next book was set up very nicely and made me want to start it right away.
