The Republic of Wine
by Mo Yan, Howard Goldblatt
I liked this well enough to give it 4 stars, but I'm still not going to finish it because it is fatiguing. I am fatigued.
The satire of China's culture of food and drink was wickedly funny at times, although I'd love to see an annotated version to get all the references. (Fat chance--they barely copyedited this Kindle version.) The language had its lyrical moments, but I don't know how much of that was the translator.
