Starlight Enclave: A Novel by R.A. Salvatore
4.0

A solid installment, containing a lot of what you'd expect from a Legend of Drizzt novel. I enjoy books which raise important questions and issues, and this one wastes no time doing plenty of that. As is typical of this series, many of these questions are regarding religion and belief systems: How do we reconcile differing belief systems within a marriage or close relationship? If there is a difference of religion between parents, how does a couple introduce the topic to their children? How might one's beliefs evolve over time as they gain life experience? How are firmly held beliefs tested when we're presented with powerful evidence which contradicts them? It's refreshing and enlightening to see these issues discussed by wise, mature people who put the love for each other above any and all differences they happen to have.

There's plenty of action throughout the book; we get to see some of the most skilled fighters of this world get into plenty of scrapes. Whether you enjoy combat for sport, the conquest of evil or desperate survival, you should find something you'll enjoy here. With that said, it's somewhat secondary to exploration and character development in this one. It's important to examine the purpose and morality of a quest before embarking upon it and knowing when you should and should not seek a fight, and I enjoyed reading those conversations and exploring how the various cultures handle these dilemmas.

If you're still with this series which counts both its years and its books at over 30, you'll likely enjoy this one too.
