Dare I say I might have found a favorite book of 2021 in only March?!? This was my first Harmon and I will now be making my way through her backlist!

Benny Lament is the son of a mobster. Determined not to join the family business Benny dives deep into the world of music, songwriting and becomes master of the piano. After his dad introduces him to the power house voice that is Esther Mine his world begins to change. The duo along with her brothers instantly gain national spotlight for more than just their music. Benny is white and Esther and her brothers are black.

This book is just magic from the very first page. Not only is their the issue of family and wrong versus right but this book also centers around the civil rights movement. There is so much research and heart put into this book and the characters I found to be absolute perfection. This book switches back and forth between chapters told through a radio interview and traditional story format. I am telling you, you will want to read this book! It is a hug of pure perfection!
