The Dead and the Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer

6. Personal Response: Being a former Catholic in a conservative community, Alex really just drove me nuts. Only in the 3rd book did I finally give him a break. He felt that without faith there is nothing So even though his nonsensical decisions weren’t really practical during the apocalypse, he stuck with it to survive emotionally.[return]7. Connections: This could be used in a post apocalyptic series unit in conjunction with books like the City of Ember. This would go great in a media tie-in display with movies such as 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow.
