Witchy, Volume 1
by Ariel Slamet Ries
3.5 // 5 stars
I really enjoyed this graphic novel. I liked the art style, I thought the world was interesting and the magic system captivating, the characters compelling, and the number one thing I liked was that the pacing was wonderful. A lot of graphic novels move pretty quickly when I read them due to being mostly art, but although this one also was a quick read, its pacing was spectacular.
I wish we'd gotten even more about the magic and world as a whole, though. I didn't think we were overwhelmed or info-dumped on, but I always love seeing more about magic systems so it would've been cool to see a bit more of the magic in use. I also love strong friendships and I'm hoping some of the relationships we saw forming in this one develop into strong friendships in a future volume. Overall, I'm just left with a lot of questions about the world, the characters around our main, and what everything means for the plot.
I'm definitely interested in seeing what happens next in this world. I thought that, overall, this first graphic novel is a strong base and set up for future installments. I'm left wondering what will happen next, I'm emotionally invested in our main character, and I'm intrigued by the world and magic. Not to mention, the art style was beautiful and unique from a lot of graphic novels I've read.
