Monstress, Vol. 3: Haven by Marjorie M. Liu
5.0
SO MANY THINGS TO LOVE
1) Truly is there any other comic with art that is comparable to Monstress. It's so luscious, it's MADLY detailed, it's so gorgeous even when horrendously gory things are happening
2) This volume, even more than volume 2, feels like it has a really complete & contained arc set around a single city and event, which makes the stakes stay high and memorable, and the secrets and revelations are well-paced. It's also still moving the overall plot and world forward, and the game keeps building. It's DELICIOUS.
4) The evolution of the relationships and the expression of them (EVERYBODY LOVES KIPPA, but also Maika & Zinn, Zinn & others, lots more) is so good! So much feeling!
5) The balancing of the (dark) humor & the plot & the feelings (characters to each other, especially the TIGER DADS i missed them) is so deftly done
6) The "mothers" scene is amazing. Felt like getting a glimpse at the heart of the story.
7) I also quite like the way we briefly entered Maika's dreams, which are full of body horror and emotions expressed as images and terrible conversations, and then some of the visuals she dreams are introduced into the real world of the plot seamlessly (I think! The chest-eye looking Real being the main thing I noticed)

AND THE LITTLE POMERANIAN this comic is so deft.
