Can confirm the musical is WAY better.
It's such bizzare book. It's very densely written for no reason, and multiple sections had me like what is even going on.
The audiobook is over 19 hours and that makes no sense considering it's only just over 400 pages?? I think it's because of how dense the writing is.
The book is weird, and sometimes that was a good weird and had me laughing, and other times it was a bad werid had me like why the hell would you describe something like that, it's gross. Which is why my rating is actually torn between 2.75 and 3 stars, I enjoyed some parts.
There was nowhere enough Fiyero and Elphaba 😠honestly their section was the most enjoyable, but also felt the shortest 😠My favourite thing about the book was them and finding out Fiyero is a person of colour !!! He's described as having dark skin and with a pattern of blue diamonds tattooed on him, and I really want to see this !!! Her codename of Fae and his nickname of Yero was also very cute.(Even still Fiyero is literally married and this entire relationship is an affair like ???)
All the discussions on evil I didn't think were that good??? The politics of the novel was fine, sometimes interesting, sometimes bad and no sense. It was interesting having the time jumps in the sections, but I was surprised to see how Elphaba's social justice/belief in Animal rights basically fell away, sure she believed in them and was against the Wizard, but honestly she didn't do much post Fiyero, and even when she was underground, she didn't really do anything to warrante being the "wicked witch" ? (and yes does make sense re her grief, but still she kinda gives up on it all).
I went in fully prepared that this book was adult, explicit, and very different from the musical, but my question is how did they read this book and THEN make the musical???? Like the musical is completely different in so many ways, how did they even think of making it into that??? Wild but I'm glad that something amazing like Wicked the musical came out of this very very bizarre book!
