The Faceless Ones
by Derek Landy
I've been eyeing this book a few days now in the psych ward (no joke) and finally decide to pick it up and read it seeing as there is no owner. This has to be the most enjoyable random read I've had this year!
The plot is action packed and had enough page turners to keep me going. What I love about it is how it does not focus solely on how the teen heroin is being all teen angsty whatever like most books these days with a teen lead, if you get what I mean. The whole she's a teen so she's like this and feels like this stuff is just enough to give me the message she's still a kid. Nothing too teen emo. Nothing too overly flawed nor overly perfect. There's some humor thrown in too which gives balance to the flow of the story and it doesn't distract from the point.
Each of the characters were lovable and had just enough exposure each that I don't think there was any of them left out.
I did get a bit confused in between until I realized this was actually the 3rd book of a series. I haven't read the 1st 2 but I was still able to enjoy the story none the less. Unfortunately there will still be a few unexplained parts which I believe would have made more sense had I read the 1st 2 books prior. But again, it was still an enjoyable read anyway and I would gladly read the prior books if I'll ever get my hands on them and the rest of the books of the series!
