With an escaped convict from the wizard prison Azkaban out to kill him, Harry Potter returns to a school heavily guarded by terrifying dementors and limited from doing anything in the name of his own safety.

My second favorite in the series bc I’m forever a Marauders girlie. This one is the reason for like 70% of HP fanfic and I’d even argue it has THE scene that spurred on the Dramione fans. I distinctly remember reading this one in middle school and this was when the series really clicked for me because drama and betrayal and also werewolves. This is also when the movies went to trash; I cried when I saw the casting. The ending is a lot and time travel is iffy, but everything else makes up for it.

For fans of:
dark academia; the earnestness of British children’s literature; friendship being literally magic; setting as character; chosen one; werewolves; hot professors

CW/TW:
parental death; child abuse/neglect; horror elements; animal abuse; bullying
