This book was much more about the plot than it was about the spice. I liked it well enough, but I think the writing was reaching at times. The FMC is a Shakespear nerd and "loves words". As if to prove this point, the author used unnecessarily fluffy language for mundane things, but then would be really concise during other parts that I wished were more descriptive.
