Platform Seven
by Louise Doughty
Platform Seven on a cold, quiet night. A man walks along the platform and takes his own life by stepping in front of a freight train.
The only witnesses to this act is a station employee and a woman who has been trapped on Platform Seven for a very long time...
This book did the rounds last year and it had very mixed reviews, which I think is because it was marketed as a thriller.
In my opinion, this is actually a literary fiction novel and having approached it with that in mind, I really enjoyed this interesting look at human connection, loneliness and the stories that we tell ourselves.
I did think that it was 100 pages too long and there were a couple of places were the pacing was off but overall, I thought this was beautifully written and I enjoyed my time reading it.
Content warning for suicide, discussions of child sexual abuse (not shown on page), coercive control, domestic abuse and grief.
