Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke

The writing is immaculate. It's funny and witty, and the world is lush with details and complex, whacky characters. While the book is really hard to get through because of it's slow pace, it's also such an amazingly immersive world that I didn't want to leave. However, the overall story felt needlessly long, and by the end of it, I felt a little bit disappointed with the pay-off. I guess I was anticipating a very different culmination of events. Unfortunately, because this, I was left with the feeling that the book was just "okay" instead of brilliant.
