Rachel Gillig writes beautifully. I love how she weaves a story. It is part fairy tale, part poetry, and part cinematic. I can see what she is describing and the characters are experiencing even though the book isn't overly descriptive. The story took a bit to hook me just because it was so different, and tbh I didn't read the summary before starting. I really had no idea what it was about. There were twists and turns I did not see coming, probably because I spent an absurd amount of brain power trying to figure out how 6 could see and how dirty and gross her feet must be from walking barefoot everywhere! Overall, I absolutely can't wait for book 2. The hype landed correctly with this one, but be aware it isn't a romantasy. It is a fantasy romance. The storyline is the true driving force, not the romance. Which is perfectly fine for me, but it might be disappointing to someone who was looking for more romance vs. fantasy.
