A bracing account of how the authors believe that the Democrats have abandoned rural America, and how one of the authors won a state legislative seat in rural Maine. Maxmin and Woodward do make some good points -- in particular, that Democrats could do more to couch their wonky policy proposals in values language that might be more appealing to the everyday voter -- but I think that Maxmin and Woodward have bought into rural America's belief in its own inherent superiority a little too much (as someone who grew up on a farm in Arkansas, I don't think rural Americans have any special "rooted wisdom") and I am skeptical that their methods would translate to the Bible Belt.
