We Were Kings by Court Stevens
3.0
“One drop of blood. That’s what she will be executed for”.
We Were Kings tells the compelling fictional story of a Kentucky death penalty case involving a rich and powerful family, the Kings, and the dark secrets they are willing to kill for to keep buried. Although this book isn’t based on a true story, the realities of the faults within the criminal justice system and death penalty cases in particular are illustrated and force the reader to grapple with their stance on capital punishment. While the writing style wasn’t my favorite, the storyline was compelling and the twists kept me engaged and invested in the ending.
