So I had one of those "you think you're about to drink milk but it's actually orange juice" experiences while listening to this book. I thought it was scifi or magical realism where somehow they were going to alter reality with their games (the flash forward bits seemed to support my point!). Anyway, it ended up being a story about people doing... Nothing? Living? I found the characters compelling, and I loved Los Angeles as a setting: the author clearly loves the city like I do. But also it was very coastal, middle class/rich, and severely lacking in women as characters. So... I don't know. It was a worthwhile read for me, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend. I was drawn in until the last 10%, which dragged. Also, I did not like the audiobook narrator. She only differentiated voices if the character was meant to have an accent, so there were several times that I wasn't sure which character was talking because they mostly sounded identical. So maybe read it instead of listen.
