The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley
4.0

What a delicious, twisted whodunnit mystery/thriller! Jess is trying to escape her job and heads to Paris to crash with her half-brother Ben. When she arrives, he’s nowhere to be found. She calls and sends him multiple texts but gets no response and she can’t entered the secured Paris apartment building. She eventually makes her way into the building, then breaks into Ben’s apartment but he’s not there. As she tries to track him down, she encounters the eccentric residents in the building and starts to uncover the secrets of the building and the residents.

The chapters share alternating views from each character which keeps the story moving. It started a little slow but about halfway through it picks up quickly. There’s danger around each corner, unfriendly residents, secrets and a building full of mysteries. Jess seems to ignore the dangers and continues to press forward into danger. Though her childhood was not rough and in unremarkable, it gave her skills and the intuition to know something is not right. There’s times of dread with the twists and turns. There’s abuse of women, a dysfunctional family full of secrets, and creepy atmosphere. The final twist was good and the story kept me on my toes. The ending was fair for the characters.
