As She Fades by Abbi Glines

Help me. Send chocolate. Or Dylan O'brien, whichever is easiest.

Let me start from the beginning so that you will understand my plea.

This story follows Vale McKinley as she goes through something unimaginable. She does everything possible to keep a hold on the one boy she's ever loved. This isn't about cake and party balloons. This is about letting go, moving on, and truly finding yourself.

So, yeah. I'm conflicted. I like to keep my reviews spoiler free (unless it's a series!) but a twist happens about half-way through and it left me a little...jarred? It wasn't a bad twist by any means-it surprised the heck out of me-but it felt...off. It played out a little weird, almost like a dream moving forward. I kinda wish it happened a tad earlier because the first half almost becomes...moot in a way.

I know! I make no sense, but trust me.

Vale bugged me at a few times but I think that was because what she was feeling, thinking, and choosing to do were real actions anyone would make. I wished it was all just butterflies and cotton candy, a perfect combo, am I right? But it was nice to see her growth during the first half, but it almost seemed, once again, moot.

Slade was the typical frat boy. Girls threw themselves at him in like, every chapter, which became a yawn fest. I wanted something different for once, but I get that attraction. He seemed hot, nice (when no one is around) and was just as lost as we all are.

Despite that, I found the chemistry really nice between him and Vale. It wasn't forced, it wasn't instant attraction. It fit for the moment and how the story was going. It worked. I just wish I could have had more scenes of them growing closer and really feel that connection.

This wasn't predictable after the first half. It was nice. There were a few cliches but I'm guilty of liking those in all romance books, so it wasn't really a downside for me! This wasn't like bam! with how the story went but it was a nice, short read. It wasn't overly dramatic, loud and crazy.

I could say it was a tad boring in a few places.

I'd like to point out that the summery of this story, is not correct. I don't want to spoil anything, so if you have a question about what is wrong with it and the story, comment below or write me on twitter!

But overall, it was a good read. Typical Abbi type words and writing--aka, that's good!
