Ship Wrecked

4.5 stars, actually.
ought this on a recommendation from Smart Bitches, Trashy Books and I am glad. This was awesome. While I went into it hoping to read a tale of two folks actually struggling to survive on a deserted island, what I got was two actors in a thinly veiled Game of Thrones-esque show figuring out their priorities.
Maria is a Swede (Fy fan) auditioning for a role on a lark. Peter is a serious USA actor trying to level up in Hollywood. They meet in a sauna, have a one night stand, and then are cast in the show. They go to an isolated island and are forced to create a found family among their castmates and crew.
Maria is strong, determined, and very, very fragile emotionally. She is also body-positive and won’t let the showrunners push her around. Peter is desperately in need of socializing, and Maria is the bridge that connects him to everyone else. He isn’t as strong against the showrunners.
I am used to romances where there’s kind of a “real time” feel to the actually wooing and then possibly some time after the main conflict, but this one is fairly rambling. Lots of time is covered, but it wasn’t a matter of “Summarizing” which I hate. It worked.
And…there’s hitting over the head with lutefisk, super fun nerdy bantering amongst the castmates, lots of pop culture references, and super-satisfying (both compromise) and believable conflict that resolves. There’s some great emotional arc here, folks. I will 100% go and read the other two romances in this series!
