This was a very cute book about a Grade 5 teacher, Mrs. Granger, who loves the dictionary and accidentally sets off a classroom war with a student, Nick Allen, who wants to create his own word to add to the dictionary. Nick decides to start his process, almost by mistake, as a joke on his teacher. Pretty soon, the teacher sets her foot down, trying to teach the students that there are plenty of words already in the dictionary that they need to learn. Hence ensues a war between the entire community and Mrs. Granger-a word of (new) words. I won't spoil the ending, but everything turns out okay in the end. This book is perfect classroom reading for G4/G5 students. I am sure every student will enjoy the idea of a feud between a teacher and students. I am not so sure all of them would understand what is really behind the feud which is respect between teachers and students and the life-long learning that can result.
