I won’t act like I’m an expert on theatre and on top on that, on plays in verse, because I’m not; so my opinion may be unfounded. It took me more than I expected diving into the story, for the sole reason that I’m not used to this kind of writing, and at some points I found myself getting lost in the plot. But regardless I can tell why this play is considered one of the greatest works in literature. The story it’s a tragedy, and as so it has its elements, dismissing others as character’s deep that I’m more used to and that I kind of missed while reading. The plot it’s interesting and gets you hooked to the story, and I have to say that I really liked the use of fate, and how in the end destiny tells the story. Some verses were pure art, while I found some others to be a bit tasteless. I don’t know if this “inconsistency” is a style mark of Shakespeare and if it was made on purpose, so, given my lack of knowledge, I won’t comment more on that. I think I would have enjoyed much more this classic story if I saw the play instead of reading this book, but anyway I’m in favor of reading the classics at least once, so this read wasn’t a loss of time.
