Chronicle of a Death Foretold
by Gabriel García Márquez
dark
mysterious
reflective
sad
medium-paced
There had never been a death more foretold.
There's a dreamlike inevitably that carries through the story, juxtaposed against the visceral brutality of the actual event.
The story keeps you gripped as it unveils the layers of pettiness, misunderstanding, happenstance and assumption that lead to the whole town's collective responsibility for the murder. Beautiful writing ok a terrible truth.
