A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
4.5

Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I have given this 4.5 stars simply because I found it so moving. I cried many times. The book also humanised a type of person that I would usually not be able to get along with.
I also liked the ambiguity of the ending. Perhaps Ove did finally succeed in finding death, and perhaps that’s OK, perhaps people should sometimes get to choose when they die, but I have been suicidal in the past and probably don’t think about suicide in the same way others do. Most people would probably prefer to think he died of his heart condition. But I like that this book left some room for interpretation in that regard.
