Death of a Bookseller by Alice Slater
4.0

Roach is obsessed with true crime, to the extent that she orders books for herself in the bookshop where she works, never paying for them and never intending to sell them in the shop.
When a new bookseller joins Spines in Walthamstow, Roach is immediately drawn to her. However, Laura wants nothing to do with her. Roach tries everything to get Laura to like her and, when she finds out about Laura's tragic past, she thinks that they were meant to find each other.
Laura disagrees and Roach, in turn, becomes a stalker, until her obsession gets out of hand.
Both Laura and Roach are damaged characters who need help. Laura copes by writing poetry and reading at small venues. She also, frequently, disappears into a bottle.
The story is quite dark at times and you do feel sympathy for the characters, even though they are quite unlikeable.
