boekenworm 's review for:
The Sunday Girl
by Pip Drysdale
So glad that I finally got to “The Sunday Girl” on my “to read” list. The blurb had me intrigued. The novel did not disappoint. It had me captivated from the start. Along the way it took some unexpected twists and turns, making it difficult to put the novel down.
The author has cleverly interwoven parts of “The Art of War” into the story line. Although “the war” between Taylor and Angus is fought with modern technology instead of conventional weaponry, strategies as discussed in “The Art of War”, remain the same.
The novel demonstrates how easy it is to fool oneself into believing that you are a protector, care giver and nurturer in a loving relationship, when in fact, the relationship has turned toxic. Taylor is in denial about the unhealthy an unacceptable behaviour of Angus. She does not trust him but her needy personality desperately wants him to love her. Angus is demanding, controlling, abusive and dishonest and plays on Taylor’s insecurities.
The suspense build up in the novel was excellent, but I felt the ending let it down a little. I personally would have preferred a slower paced ending.
I highly recommend this novel to anyone who likes to read a well written suspense novel.
