All Adults Here by Emma Straub

3.0

3.5 is a more accurate rating, but rounding down as I wouldn't personally recommend to friends. All Adults Here starts out promising, centering on Astrid Strick and her 3 adult children (and their children) and the reckoning that happens between parents and children as time passes. I get the sense that the author was trying to fill in as much as she could within just one novel, and that attempt to do everything really detracted from the second half of the book. While I certainly appreciate the extent of difficult topics covered, from detached parenting, changing and undefined sexuality, bullying, going against societal norms and expectations, etc. it felt like each character and storyline was never fully finished and fleshed out, which leaves the readers wanting. Overall, a great message and overall story, but not executed well in the writing.
