The Hollow by Agatha Christie

4.0

This book was quite different than the typical Hercule Poirot mystery. Rather than being chockfull of clues — true ones and red herrings — we get very little, and what there is is confusing and leads nowhere. We also spend a lot of time with the various characters and comparatively little with Poirot and Inspector Grange. It was welcome change of pace, and it was also nice to have a reveal that wasn't Poirot sitting down in a room with everyone.

Because we spend so much time with the characters outside of the murder investigation, the book was a bit slow at times and would have been a 3-star read if it weren't for the incomparable Lucy Angkatell, who was a wonderfully hilarious character well voiced by Hugh Fraser. I recommend this on audio.
