I like the premise and I suspect the longer I sit on this the more the psychological intent will come into view. I think it is a grand metaphor!!
However, I’m glad this was such a quick read because some of it was pretty rough.
like:
“Pa does not hear the scream over the engine. Ma dresses the wound, but Pa takes his shotgun and leaves the house.”
It’s a quick read, and probably meant to be deeper than I plan to think about, but the plot left a lot to be desired, the ending left a lot of holes, and I wanted more answers!
