Somebody's Angel
by Kallypso Masters
All of the books up to this one have not been emotion-lite but this one took the emotional side to a whole new level. In the previous three books Marc, Adam, and Damian all seem to have their "come to Jesus" moments. In Nobody's Perfect we begin to see that Marc's "moment" might not have been enough.
In this book, Somebody's Angel, Marc and Angelina can't pretend there was any resolution besides removing Sir Asshole from their presence. I purchased the book when it first came out but knew I would need to be able to give it all my focus (as any good Dom deserves). My was it an emotional roller-coaster. Reading reviews on here and on Amazon, many felt the story was drawn out or tedious. Personally, I felt wrung out. Not because of the book but because I was always waiting, like Angel, for Marc to reach bottom. And yet, when we got to the point of the interrogation scene I could feel both the desperation for SOMETHING to help Marc and a fervent hope that instead he'd ask Angel for one last chance a prove himself without putting himself through torture. Literally.
My two points of contention, though one I can understand thematically, are these... First, the scarcity of erotic scenes. This I can rationally understand. Marc and Angel are on the outs, of course they aren't having hot, kinky sex. I get it but I missed it. Second, there is no resolution to the intimacy problems between Adam and Karla. I know the book isn't about them, but I've come to love them, as Adam and Karla, and as individuals. I hate seeing any trouble in that paradise. Experiencing the moment in the hotel my heart almost broke for Karla and then after all Adam does for Marc during the RACK scene, he deserves to have someone to turn to for comfort. I want that for him and am sad. Even at the wedding we don't get a clue as to if there was rift that needed mending or if any required mending had been seen to.
In the end they get their happily ever after and I get watch it unfold.
