If It Makes You Happy by Julie Olivia

5.0

He had two babies, one was 6 one was a teen, in the autumn of 97...

(Please tell me you sang that to the tune of I Don't Wanna Wait because if you didn't please go back and try again)

This book has had such a grip on me. I was transported back in time. Back to a time where the family phone was attached to the wall and EVERYONE heard what your friend said on the answering machine because you didn't answer the phone during dinner. Back to a time where you went to a video store to take out a movie for the weekend. Back to a time where an innkeeper had to really figure out where they went wrong on their own because no one was leaving a review online.

Cliff and Michelle both have partner wounds from their exes. They're afraid to love again. They aren't sure they're worthy of being loved just as they are.

Julie tells their stories honoring the flaws in each human (except one character who can get kicked in the nards for all I care). She makes the book delightfully nostalgic but never cheesy. Each reference to the 90s, in both language and pop culture, fits seamlessly into the story and never feels forced. It's a story of love and second chances whether you miss the 90s or not BUT if you loved the 90s as much as I did you're gonna REALLY love this book.

Grab a cozy blanket, a warm beverage, a tasty treat (the book WILL make you hungry- Cliff is a baker), and light a candle as you snuggle in for this cozy romance.
And bonus tip: I searched "fall ambiance" on YouTube and had a small town with falling leaves or a cozy fire as my backdrop while I read. You won't regret that choice either.
