As my first Colleen Hoover book, I didn’t really have any expectations before going into it. I loved Hoover's writing style, especially in Miles’ chapters. I like how she wrote his chapters from the past in poetry format, then wrote his present chapters normally, but went back to the poetry format for the epilogue. Hoover also reused scenes, which I enjoyed as you could easily compare the different scenes she change/reused. I loved how we got a Rachel chapter as well, it really brought closure and it was nice to see what happened in Miles’ past from her perspective.

Cap was my favourite character by far, his humour brought lightheartedness to the end of some emotionally intense chapters, but he also gave great advice to both Tate and Miles. I felt really bad for Tate with how Miles was treating her throughout the book, almost leading her on but without him knowing it, which then made me hate Miles a little bit. However, after reading and finding out what happened in his past, I understood Miles a little more, but I still didn’t like the way he treated Tate throughout their friends-with-benefits relationship.

Overall, Ugly Love gets 4 stars, I loved the writing and the majority of the plot but it felt like something was missing.
