Wrecked by Lauren Asher
3.0
This is book 3 of the ‘Dirty Air’ series and follows the relationship of Elena and Jax. This is my favourite book of the series, even though it was so sad and had my heart clenching while I am on the verge of tears. You could even say it ‘wrecked’ my heart, but in the best way possible. A bittersweet story worth reading.
Elena Gonzalez is a PR manager who is hired by McCoy to make Jax’s public image better and to keep him under control for the upcoming F1 season. She is a confident queen with a traumatic past and a massive heart. She is a badass who can stand up to all the men in the F1 world and stand her ground. She took the challenge of working as Jax’s PR manager to make sure she can afford to give her grandma the best care possible.
Jax Kingston is a F1 driver and is characterized as a bad boy addicted to bad decisions (women, drugs, alcohol, you name it he did it). He also has massive anxiety and is addicted to Xanax, due to his mom having a terminal disease. He falls for Elena almost immediately once they start working together, but he denies and denies and denies until he cannot anymore. Elena is the reason for his character development to a nice human person and the reason for Jax to put his life together.
Elena and Jax's relationship started as hate to love and took months to unravel. Their progress was slow and steady, and the characters helped each other heal and become the better version of themselves. The forced proximity really pushed the chemistry of their relationship to the surface and until they could not deny it.
Their relationship was imperfectly perfect and I loved their small gestures. Elena writing small notes for Jax and putting them in his Xanax bottle so that he can't take pills every time anxiety kicks in. Jax buying the F1 nightlights for Elena once he realised, she cannot sleep in the dark and taking Elena on a date to see the hot balloons festival
Favourite lines:
- "I don’t need a happy ending. I need our ending. The one that might be messy and imperfect, but exclusively ours."
- “Jax?” “Mm.” His chest rumbles beneath me. “I think I’m falling in love with you.” He squeezes me tighter into him. “Elena?” “Mm.” I copy him. “I already know I am.”
