It's been over two years since I read "The Way of Kings", so to refresh my memory, I watched a YouTube review of the book before starting this one, and I was glad I did, as there were a lot of details I had forgotten, all of which were important.
The main characters, Dalinar, Adolin, Shallon and Kaladin, all continue to play major roles in the events unfolding, which include a few shocks and surprises along the way. Their individual personalities and, in some cases, histories are further delved into through flashbacks, giving the reader a good idea of what drives and motivates them. They are, of course, supported by an extensive cast of characters, whose individual stories also continue to be developed and impact the story.
The pace of the book is steady, with the story concentrating on fleshing out the characters and the world they inhabit, rather than outright action, though there is ample of that scattered throughout the pages, making this a book that becomes steadily more engrossing the more you progress through it.
The events on the shattered plains build to a finale that contains several revelations that promise interesting ramifications in the next book, while concluding this one in a satisfactory manner.
