Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

fast-paced

4.75

Of Mice and Men is a classic work of American literature for a reason. Steinbeck elegantly crafts evocative descriptions of pastoralism and the American dream together with well formed, deep characters in less pages than most books. Steinbeck must have been a master of “killing his darlings”.

Of Mice and Men tells the story of two men, George and Lennie as they travel to and start work as hands on a ranch. But the real story here is not the work they do on the ranch, but the dreams they have for their future, and the realities that stand in their way. Of Mice and Men  is a classic in my opinion because the pain of a lost ambition is a near universal experience, and Of Mice and Men tell the best the story.
