The Collector by John Fowles

Craft! Holy-dang craft! I learned so much from this book. I felt every emotion. I lingered on a strong dose of hate, but I sympathized and empathized, laughed, cried. Some passages filled me with anxiety, others inspired me. Miranda's reflections on art and the artist took hold of me (and I'd suppose any reader) and forced me to reflect on what I've given to make art. When she says, "I forgive you," its archetypical messiah, but not overwrought or overboard. What a great, painful, deliberate book. Deliberate.
