god. what a devastating book. these characters’ stories are so deeply intertwined and so vividly real, and the way celeste ng jumps from timeline to timeline and from character to character so exceptionally well (especially for a debut) keeps you guessing until the bitter end.
the prose is gorgeous and really shines in what are otherwise very quiet, very understated scenes. there is so much devastation in how mundane this family’s story is, and celeste ng makes ever little piece count.
if you love stories where characters haunt the narrative with their absence, this book is for you.
