Manderley Forever by Tatiana de Rosnay

4.0

I'd give this 3.5 stars if possible, but rounded up to 4 stars because of the lovely narration and the fact it made me want to read as many of the works by Daphne du Maurier as possible. I've checked out my library's shelves to see which ones are available and am eager to read both her fiction and non-fiction works soon. Even though I was not overly familiar with du Maurier's work, I decided to pick this one up since it was nominated for several awards, including the 2017 Agatha for Best Nonfiction.

As I listened to the audiobook version, I soon became immersed in du Maurier's life story and fascinated by the body of work she produced and how she created them. Equally interesting to me were the insights into the publishing industry and how it changed from her first book to her last. The material is presented in an engaging way, almost as if it is a novelization of du Maurier's life, rather than a dry recitation of facts about the author. While I don't typically listen to audiobooks, I enjoyed experiencing the book in this way and am glad I decided to give it a try.
