The Wrong Daughter
by Dandy Smith
What I enjoyed about this book was the really vibrant and evocative descriptions peppered throughout, and the exploration of anger, frustration and loneliness. The interactions and transforming dynamics between the sisters was interesting and a high point of the story, at least until the end when they became weird, convoluted in a superficial way and sorta flat.
Overall, I finished the book thoroughly underwhelmed despite the amount of drama and plot twists packed into the chapters. Every loose string was tied up and explained, I'll give the book that, but niggling under the emotions evoked from each page was an increasing feeling of how farfetched everything was. Even for a typical mystery/psychological thriller. Everything is just unbelievable and so the drama and tension falls flat. Yes, you have to suspend your belief somewhat when it comes to fiction, but with the extent I had to do so, I felt it wasn't really worth taking the story and plot seriously.
